my wi 5th season im hunting a new farm for turkeys and learning on the fly started out with wed am never heard a gobble so pulled the plug early and went to work headed back wed about 4:30 pm to my surprise my 1st yelps were answered from 4 different directions so i picked what i thought to be the hottest and headed after him turned out to be 3 gobblers but the 70 yard wall was where they would stop only to walk off eventually so i headed up to the ridge where i set up a blind put out a lone hen and settled in instantly i had gobbling out front and a bird working my way finnally he crests the hill 75 yards out whata sight red head full strut in the bright green grass here he comes im 32 yards from the fence he cuts low and comes under out of sight then i learn of another rookie mistake i made in decoy placement 5 yards past her the hill crests i can here him strut but cant see him this lasts 3 or 4 minutes then he gives up and walks off thurs am went to a different place to hunt with another friend slow early then got on a few birds 8ish only to have 2 jakes sneek in and almost step on me then spook and spook the tom we were after had a good mid day hen fight with a nice bearded hen but couldnt get her close enough thurs 4ish back in the blind on the ridge lots of gobbles but no sightings on the way out roosted a tom so had a plan for the am fri am snuck in nice and close 75 yards from him only to find out i was in the middle of a flock lots of hens and 3 toms they flew down and met too far away and went silent from there on out i gave em and hour and headed to work fri night found me back in the roost area but no luck saw 2 hens but no toms sat am in the blind on the ridge worked a tom hadhim coming on a string only to have a coyote come out and run him off came home for a much needed nap headed back out sat afternoon back to the blind had some gobbles hooked a tom and had him coming only to have the neighbors kid come by on a 4-wheeler and run him off hung out for awhile and sure enough about an hour later he gobbled again got him coming only to have a hen come out and take him away sun am back in the blind again slow at 1st then about 6ish had a gobble from behind me got him coming down the logging road right to me only to have him come almost out far enough but when he saw my hen and b-mobile he turned and went back the other way walked around a bit wityh no luck came home took a nap and watched the cubs game then back to the blind stuck out the lone hen and settled in 545 out he came silent this time 52 yards too far (45 my max even on the last night) a few soft yelps sent him scurrying away grabbed my stuff waved the white flag and came home hopefully me and the mrs have better luck this week
