It seems as though not many birds were taken this year compared to last…Tougher year this year?? Anyone know how the gobblers are responding to calls, decoys, etc??

In my expierence I saw maor birds this year but less Toms…I had hens and jakes around me every day but the big boys were tough to come by unless I was driving down the road. I used a solo hen decoy last week and had the tom we shot come right to it after I called..He saw it from about 100 to 150 yrds away and went straight to it…this was in central mn….Jay

thanks Jay My season is this friday and hopefully i can put the down on a nice bird. Sounds like there hasn’t been a lot of gobbling once they come down from the roost this last week I hope that’s not the case this weekend

I’ve heard confilcting reports, but then again different birds act different ways. One group was at our place in Rushford, where I got my bird on the second day of the season(but my first day hunting “C”) and my brothers in-laws shot one but saw and heard many, that group didn’t hear many at all. My buddy who was near Houston had a slow morning but heard some and after the morning hunt did some runnin’ and gunnin’ and had 5 toms come in just a bellerin’ at noon.

The outdoor news reported that this will be again, a record setting year for harvest. So far every season. if I remember right, has out numbered the seasons from last year.
