Got this guy this morning. Snuck close to where they were gobbling last week. when they started gobbling at 5:15 they were 400 yards up the valley. I moved up there quick and got set up about 100 yards away. They quit gobbling when they came off the roost. I gave 1 quiet hen call with no response….until 1 gobbled about 50 yards away over a little rise. That wakes a guy up! 2 Toms and a hen crested the rise at 5:50. 35 yard shot. The hen hung around for a while wondering why her dude wasn’t moving.
2 yr old bird. 21 lbs, 9.5 inch beard and the spurs were rounded like a typical 2 yr old(3/4 inch?). My Dad got a 2 yr old 23.5 lb in about the same spot during 1st season.
