Well another turkey season has passed for my wife Stacey and I. I started out hunting Tuesday all day by my self and just saw hens. Wed. my wife joined me as she and I took the week off work..As I didnt get a bird Tuesday she gets first shot after Tuesday. Well wed brought more hens and one that strutted up to my decoy and attacked it, first time I saw a hen strut.. I have a poor pic attached where its givin the decoy its business. After no luck sun up to sun down Tues and Wed we were getting a bit worried. Thursday came and moved closer to the heavy woods..Well besides about 15 deer around us nothing but hens till about 4:00 p.m. Four Toms come from behind us towards two hens about 50 yrds out. My wife picked up the gun but because she is left handed, she couldnt get a good shot as the birds were back to her left…well now they are pushin 50 yrds near the hens as she hands me the gun…Im thinkin ALRIGHT…bam!!! I shoot and a clean miss…yup I missed ..and will never hear the end of it…they take off only to come back later but not in range, so none were injured. By Friday morning we are both beat..we have been gettin up at 3:45a.m. and in the blind at 4:45 A.M.and leavin the blind at around 8:30p.m. every day…So Friday the sun comes up with birds gobblin everywhere..we are feelin rejuvenated…for a bit..we see many hens, deer, cranes, and at about 2:30 p.m. an awasome Tom but never managed a shot. We were both pretty depressed on the way home from the blind Friday night…We could only hunt 1/2 day Sat. morning as we had 700 trees to plant in the afternoon. Sat. morning comes and in the blind at 4:45. We hear some gobblin but not a lot. Stacey was just with to keep me company by now as I think the 15 hour days of huntting were getting to her so she slept in the blind most the morning. At 6:00 a.m. I see a couple hens and hear a gobble a ways back in the woods..I call and the Tom gobbles off and on till about 7:50 a.m. Then it appears about 100 yrds away..I didnt wake stacey till it got eyes on my lone hen decoy and was commin right for it…I wake Stacey and I give her the gun…Im cluckin and purrin and the Tom is struttin right to the decoy. It stops but wont come in anymore then 40yrds..finally it came a few steps and I tell her to shoot when shes ready…after about 5 mins the Toms at 36 yrds, Stacey pulls the trigger and dropped the Tom …She told me she wasnt shootin a jake this year and the time in the field payed off…I couldnt have been more happy..So at 8:00a.m. the bird was down and we just got back from planting the 700 trees in the rain. It was a great week hunting together even though my tag went unfilled. I think every couple should spend a week of 15 hr days together in the blind..no phone, t.v., computer, IDO…oops except for that, Its great..A good way to get back in touch with each other..good luck to all hunters with seasons left…ohh ya it was a 22lb Tom with 10 inch beard and a bit over 1 inch spur…yum yum,Jay

Congrats Stacey and good job Jay! This is what it’s all about – building memories together! This tom will always hold a special place for both of you. You kept at it and you were finally rewarded for your efforts!

Congrats guys! I knew it was only a matter of time! Is the one pic a semi-albino hen? Poor Jay was getting pretty worked up over lack of toms as I checked in every now and then for an in the feild report. Glad it all worked out!

Coppertop that is a “semi albino” hen…she snuck up to check out the decoy and hung around within 75yrds most of the day eating…I think its the same one I,ve seen the past 3 years deer and turkey hunting…Jay
