After the frustrating and bismal saturday, sunday turned a page with some different results. After a quiet saturday the birds were in a talkative mood on sunday as the birds started sounding off about 5:25. I had a place in mind but after the set-up I stood out in the CRP and listened for close birds. After hearing several birds in all areas and going back and forth whether or not to move, I finally made the decision to make a move on what I thought were the closest birds to me. Good move. The birds were still on roost about 100 yards away at the most. Let the woods come alive for a little bit and thought that I heard about 5 different toms roosting in the same area. Let out a couple of morning puts and soft wake-up clucks and saw the birds fly down form the roost. They were still on the woods on a old hill road, so I let out a couple more soft clucks and then it was just a matter of time, like 5 minutes. 2 long-beards came strolling in and stopped about 15 yards from my strutting decoy and hen decoy, watched them for a few seconds and when they started to walk away picked out my bird and called it a season. Done by 6:00 sunday morning. 22 lbs. 10 1/4″ beard and inch spurs, not too shabby. The first nice moring for me and on the way home saw several birds out and about, stopped by a trout stream to check the conditions and heard birds the whole 10 minutes I was there. I think it was a good day.

Yes a digital camera is on my list of things to get in ’08, so no pics at this time.
