HMMMM I was sick when I got up at 4 A.M. to turkey hunt (colon cancer long story) but by 1 P.M. I was feeling like I could sit in the woods. Drove to Ft. McCoy and a gobbler gifted me I was there less than an hour when he strutted up to me with 5 hens in tow. 20 1/2 lbs maybe 2-4 year old. ( But no sunrise, no gobbling, I didn’t even get to call. Shortest season I ever had but I’m not complaining, I was in the woods breathing fresh air and still had the excitement of the hunt. Hope you all enjoy yours.

I call any time you get to spend time in the woods a success, but anytime you can harvest a bird also is double success in my books. Congrats & thanks for sharing.

I’ve been turkey hunting for over 20 years and I’ve killed more birds after 11 am than I have at flydown time.

Later in the morning, when the hens go to nest, my calling seems to sound alot better or the toms are just a little lonlier.

A couple of our best birds were killed on days that didn’t get started until 10:30 am or so.

While I really enjoy all the gobbling at dawn, there is some logic to sleeping in, having a nice breakfast, take care of a few projects at the office, and then go kill a bird at lunch time.

I’m glad you got a chance to get out and enjoy what God has given us in nature.

A slow morning on the turkey stand is much better than taking care of a few projects at the office anyday!
