I was driving down a major highway today and saw a flock of at least 30 turkeys right off the highway. They were in a small woodlot. So I did what anyone else would do when they are working, I turned around and pulled out the camera. To my amazement the toms were gobbling and strutting like crazy. Every time a hen would speak up the toms would start strutting and gobble. As you can see in some of my picks there were multiple toms strutting at one time. Is this normal for this time of year, or is it early?
And no FG911 I will not be sharing this spot with you.

This is very rare!! I can come over and thin the flock for you! If I were you I would not hunt there, they may be sick!! LOL

Cool pictures – thanks for sharing!

When temps get above freezing, toms will gobble. Even if it’s only an odd day during late Feb. What was the temp when you shot these pictures?

Once mid March rolls around and the temp is consistently above freezing, toms will gobble (only two weeks away). Shortly after, the birds will start to move out of their wintering area and the large flock will start to break up into smaller groups as they head to their spring range.

Hey FG911 look at the 5th pic. I think the turkey on the right is mooning you back.
    And a double to you.

Yikes! That makes my archery season look even further away. Thanks for sharing your lunch break! Nice pics! I’ve never seen a tom strut or gobble this time of year ever.

I see them almost daily too. Today there was only 2 Tom’s. Anyone that drives 15 south out of St.Cloud, when you get to where the 4 lanes neck down into 2, just south of I94, look to the little woods to the west, they are almost always out in the field, when the sun is out

I know at one time I knew who owned it, and at that time NOBODY could hunt it. They didn’t even hunt it… guess that’s why I always see Turkeys and Deer herded up there

After seeing them strut this early, I was a little concerned about how the archery season will be.

Some birds strut from March until mid June. I think most of them are two year old birds who aren’t the boss gobbler. These are also the birds that gobble at every hen call, crow call and other gobble they hear but won’t move an inch when you hunt them.

They are like teen age boys are showing off for the cheer leaders. Hoping to get noticed, but being ignored for the most part.
