I agree with you – even though it’s not necessary, you should put either a site or a scope on your shotgun. With today’s guns, turkey loads, and choke tubes putting out tighter patterns, one should aim versus point. Whether you go with a site or a scope, it’s just a matter of preference. The most important factor is to make sure that your scope or mount has good lightgathering capability. If you do go with a scope, make sure it has a wide field of view. Many times one has to put down the call, pick up the gun and find the bird quickly without being spotted. The last thing you want is having to move around your shotgun trying to get the bird in your scope. It also should have a reticule that will show up quickly so you can get a quick aim on the bird’s head. Hunting with a scope can also help you out in regard to better identifying the age of the bird (magnification) when it’s crunch time!
