After 2 long weeks of chasing, patterning, and alarm clocks, i finally shot my first turkey and w/ my bow My brother and i had been filming all last week and last weekend trying to get a shot at a gobbler or jake. Last night i bought the Carry Lite Pretty Boy and was hoping to use it this morning on a love sick gobbler.
The day before, we stalked on a gobbler with 5 hens but he was a GIANT So this morning, we were set up on where he roosts everyday and figured out his pattern. We had gobbles all over the place and were hearing them come closer by the minute Around 6:00 AM, two jakes came over a little rise about 20 yards to my left. Since the season is done tomorrow, i decided to take up the chance. Pretty Boy must have scared them a little b/c the started heading back to where they came from So i leaned over to try and shoot through the screen that i barely left open…what i didn’t know was the my arrow was looking right at the blind below the screen
Once i shot, i noticed the shock wire for the horses was moving up and down and there was a giant hole in the blind My brother than said, “You smoked the fence!!!” I was pissed off now!! To my suprise, the jakes didn’t spook
15 minutes later, a hen brings both the jakes back 5 yards in front of me SMOKE CITY!!!! When i shot, the jake quartered to me, and looked like a far back shot
He flew off about 150 yards and out of sight I thought for sure that i lost this bird. 10 minutes after this happened, the giant from yesturday shows up full strut and heading straight for Pretty Boy He and the other jake were circling eachother for about 5 minutes non stop but he finally was headed my way, and gobbling for every hen w/ in a square mile. Fortunately, he was about 60 infront of me and i didn’t take the shot.
1 hour went by, and we started looking for the jake w/ the help of my brother, my buddy, and their hunting dog. The dog was not able to find the bird And time was coming to an end b/c i had to work at 9 and i had planned to leave the blind at 8. After work, i made some phone calls to get an idea of how fatal the shot was.
Turns out, it was very I found him w/i 20 minutes of looking the second time!!!!
Unfortunately, we did not get him on film b/c of all the crap we had to carry to the blind and it would have been a little too much to carry.
It’s not the biggest bird in the world but i am HAPPY to death w/ this boy!! Beard measured out at 4 2/16″, spurs were both 5/16″ and weighed in at 14.45 lbs. I am one happy hunter!!

I don’t know how to post pictures w/o resizing them, so their on my photobucket!!!

Pro, Talk about working for your bird. Bowhunting these birds can be very frustrating but the longer you are out there the more you learn, Congrats on your bowkill. Awesome job!
