Today started off special for me with my father catching his first catfish a 22 inch flat not big but a good time.

Then I went off to hunt a property that I have been hunting for 5 evenings and had a pretty good Idea of where the birds would go. Last night I watched a huge bird only 10 yards away but without a clear shot. so I told myself that I would only settle for a mature bird. Just like clockwork the turkeys showed up but this time something was different. There were 4 hens not the usual 6 toms. Then the hens headed straight for me looking a little spooked. As I was watching the hens I saw that there were now 8 toms following them and going into the woods on the wrong side of my bind. So I had no choice but to make some movements and open the back window get the range of 17 yards and choose the bird. The one I choose never moved after my release. It dropped right in it’s tracks and the other birds just walked away. This was my 1st animal ever taken with a bow! It was a great experience for me!

Last Sunday I took a shot at a Jake after my buddy shot his 1st bird and hit my buddy’s blind messing up my shot…..boy I sure am glad I was nervous and messed that up.

I have not taken the time to measure the spurs and beard but it was just under 21 pounds But I am very happy with my 1st animal with a bow.

Outdoors, Any bird with a bow is quite an acomplishment, congrats! Last year I had the same problem, put my arrow through my blind, it’s so easy to when your trying to make micro-movements and your heart is about to jump out.

    Just measured the spurs

matching pair of a hair over 1 inch

That is twice the length of my 1st bird and thick beard too!
