Well, it was here and gone before I knew it. I was out the door by 4:15 and home before 7:00. I believe this gobbler may have been bumped off his roost by another hunter adjacent to me. His loss my gain. He came out on the field and gave me a ten minute show of strutting and gobbling before cautiously approaching my lone hen decoy and then it was #5’s in the face all before 6 am I wanted to use my b-mobile and give a report on it’s worth but the early morning gusts had me a little worried how it would hold in place. He went 21lbs. 10 1/4″ beard and hair over 1″ spurs.

Congrats on a nice bird! I had a similar hunt in that my season was over before I knew it! Months of getting ready for the big hunt and bam…it’s all over in a half an hour! Way to go!

awesome, coppertop! a lot of hunts are doggin, chasin and maneuverin but its quite the rush when the first setup works as planned.
i beat my earliest kill record sunday. the tom flew down at 5:25 – sunrise was 5:55 – he gobbled and strutted on a ridge in a pasture for 5 minutes, a hen showed up and started to lead him away, so i hit him with some cuts, he spun around and charged in and i dropped him at 15 yards at 5:40 a.m.

Way to go Coppertop! It’s great when they come off the roost and hit the decoy just like they are supposed to.
