Anyone heard them gobble lately? I put 4 toms to bed last night and not one of them gobbled. I was out of town the last week and not able to listen. I start tomorrow morning and have not heard a gobble in a while. Anyone heard em??

I found that lately they have shut right down! Not sure if it’s do to the weather being so windy lately or what, but we heard nothing this past weekend either. Makes it a little tougher out there that is for sure! Good luck!

roosterrousterInactiveThe "IGH"...Posts: 2092May 7, 2007 at 6:40 pm #568698I work for a very large apple orchard and workers are definitly seeing them in full strut working hens but they are very silent right now. I think the wind is a factor. One week ago when I was hunting my crow call really had them gobbling where as the owl call got nothing…RR
May 7, 2007 at 7:14 pm #31461I hunt in central WI. Thursday AM not a sound…Friday and Saturday they were gobbling like crazy in the roost….once they came down on the ground they were silent. Sat AM I was sitting in an old ice shack set up on the edge of a field…it was raining and it kept me dry…. every 15 minutes or so, I would call or putt a little, but no answer….at 6:30 I was surprised when a jake stuck his head in the door of the shack! I froze! About a minute later after nothing came in front of me, I moved around and saw 3 toms and 2 jakes skirting the field I was on…shot the largest tom I could, 22 lbs, 9 in. beard and my first spring turkey! Pics are on a portable camera and I’ll post some at a later date.

PowerFredPosts: 395May 7, 2007 at 8:38 pm #31463Our birds have been really quiet this year, too. The bird I killed during third season did not gobble once he hit the ground. Luckily, it wasn’t windy and I could hear him strutting.
I haven’t seen many birds using fields during the late morning periods. Most years I can go for a drive and see 6-12 toms out strutting after 11 am. This year, I might see one or two. I have a tag fro the sixth season. Hopefully, I can find a lonely bird who likes bad calling

May 7, 2007 at 9:52 pm #31468I took vacation on Friday never heard another gobble after there morning fly down.
Saturday…same thing. I had seven jakes walk by my blind at 25 yards around 11 a.m. A half an hour later I got to video taped three jakes watching a cat hunt for mice twenty yards in front of them. The cat had no clue he was being watched by the jakes. Then after a few minutes the cat walked towards my blind away from the jakes. I thought I heard one of the jakes tell the other two…. “Where’s that big chicken goning???” Sorry guys, but that really happened… except the jakes calling the cat a chicken!Oh yeah… Sunday was a bust also. I didn’t bother with the bow because I was afraid the arrow might get blown back at me. Did the wind ever drop lower than 20 mph at any point since Friday morning?? Oh yeah… it’s not windy today though. Good Grief!

Same here Zimmy. Hunted Friday-Sat-Sun, pretty good roost gobbling on Friday, little to none on Saturday and Sunday. Once they hit the ground, I think I heard 2 gobbles in 3 days, though my cousin stumbled across a hot one, and got him at 11 am on Saturday. 24 pounder.
