What kind of calls do you prefer to use when Turkey hunting? I personally like to use a slate call, and finish it off with a diaphram call. I did not get drawn this year, but I am going to try bowhunting them for the first time. I have had success the last 2 times out, so I definitely am excited for the new challenge of hunting them with a bow. Does anyone know of an products out there that lock your bow, and or a stand to set them in when hunting out of a ground blind?

First of all, welcome to IDA.

I use the same as you when it comes to turkey. Slate and diaphragm. I also like to throw in a shaker gobble now and then as a search call.
I have never bow hunted them but it does sound like a challenge. A good blind is a must!!!!
As far as a bow lock, if you are talking about a device that locks your bow at full draw I believe they are illegal in MN. I am not positive but I’d check on it before buying one.
There are plenty of stands that you can buy for your bow to hold it up when you are sitting. I would look into one of the stands that do not attach directly to your bow. The ones that hook to the stabilizer can be a bit cumbersome.

Good luck with your hunt and be sure to let us know how you fare.

    I use a diaphram call.
I am also making it a little harder by spotting and stalking with a bow or spot and call in. I use no blind and would have gotten a turkey if I had judged the distance correctly. And another turkey was within range and I grazed a twig and missed after a 1 hour stalk. But I am on private land and stalking is my preference. I called in a coyote to less than 5 yards with no blind but I couldn’t turn to make the shot…it snuck up behind me.

Good luck. I think the diaphram call is the best way to go. If a turkey is willing to come it doesn’t take a champion caller to call him in!

Thanks for the tip. I never even considered that it might be illegal to have it locked. I guess I was just caught up in show I watched about a guy turkey hunting with his bow. I was more looking for a base anyway. When gun hunting, I like to sit in the open, but I do have to Ameristep doghouses that I use for scouting, and or observing, so I am excited to actually hunt out of one this year.
