It was rough. At 10:00 am Friday morning it started to rain and kept raining until we left Sunday morning. But those 3 hours on Friday moring were awesome. I filmed a buddy shoot a nice bird at 15 yards, going 22lbs with a 10.5 inch beard and 1 inch spurs. He gobbled and strutted in front of us for 25 minutes before committing into the decoy. The footage was great, he even did a mock breeding sequence, which I’ve only seen twice in the wild. He gobbled close to 30 times in front of us. He must have known he was on camera or something. At about 9:30 we got on another bird that was gobbling hard and were closing the distance on him. We got to about 150-200 yards and were setting up when a guy on a 4 wheeler drove across the field in between the bird and us. The bird shut up, then about 10 minutes later started up again just to have the same guy drive back across the field and basically ending our hunt, because thats when the monsoons started. I really think we would’ve filled all 3 tags if we would’ve had a little better weather. All three nights we roosted birds to the exact tree only to wake up in the morning to rain coming down sideways.
