Good luck guys and gals, sounds like you’ll need to pick up the slack for us first 3 seasons hunters. Sounds like the bird count is way down. Today should be a great morning. I’m leaving for Missouri after work to try and lay the smack down on one this weekend.
Anybody have any suggestions for a taxidermist for turkeys?

John McHugh taxidermy down in Lake City. I’ve heard some great things. Good Luck in Missouri!

You are the second person I know that has mentioned him. I’ll have to give him a call, thanks.

So where’s the hunting story from down south?

Volds taxidermy in Rochester is pretty good.

It was rough. At 10:00 am Friday morning it started to rain and kept raining until we left Sunday morning. But those 3 hours on Friday moring were awesome. I filmed a buddy shoot a nice bird at 15 yards, going 22lbs with a 10.5 inch beard and 1 inch spurs. He gobbled and strutted in front of us for 25 minutes before committing into the decoy. The footage was great, he even did a mock breeding sequence, which I’ve only seen twice in the wild. He gobbled close to 30 times in front of us. He must have known he was on camera or something. At about 9:30 we got on another bird that was gobbling hard and were closing the distance on him. We got to about 150-200 yards and were setting up when a guy on a 4 wheeler drove across the field in between the bird and us. The bird shut up, then about 10 minutes later started up again just to have the same guy drive back across the field and basically ending our hunt, because thats when the monsoons started. I really think we would’ve filled all 3 tags if we would’ve had a little better weather. All three nights we roosted birds to the exact tree only to wake up in the morning to rain coming down sideways.

I would hold off on Volds taxidermy in Rochester, I dont want to start anything with anybody…….But I’ve personally had a bad experience with them and a good friend of mine also. Just my experience though.
    Good Luck
