If anybody is looking for some turkey decoys, the Galyans store in Woodbury has some models on sale for greater than 50% savings off the original. I picked up a box that had two jakes and a hen.
I’m not sure what to think about decoys. Sometimes I think they hurt more than help. I had four hen decoys set up Tuesday morning and at about 6:00 a.m. a group of five (One big tom and four jakes) came a couple hundred yard across a corn field. The tom stay back about 80 yds and strutted, gobbled, and drummed for over an hour but wouldn’t come within range, even when a real hen was in amongst the decoys yelping softly at him. The jakes would never get closer than about 30 yards to the decoys but other hens would walk right threw them. Later in the morning two other jakes came by but they also kept there distance from the decoy not coming any closer than about 25 yards. I wonder if I had just called and not had the decoys, if the tom would have came by looking for the hen. Maybe he wouldn’t have even came across the field. Who knows.
Stayed out this morning until I got saturated and cold then called it a morning.
