Turkey questions

I am not a avid turkey hunter, I haven’t hunted them in some time now. But I’ve been seeing them everywhere near me.

If I bow hunt them, I can hunt all all the abcd season correct. But shot gun I only can pick one ? And then my son being 11 can also hunt the entire season but with his shotgun if I’m with right.
I have no interest in taking one with a gun, but I would love to watch my son do it.
I have read the rules but I’m just asking to be sure I’m clear

That is correct. Adults can archery hunt the entire season, A-F. Adults using a shotgun have to declare a season and zone when buying the license. If you fail to get one during seasons A through E, you can try again during the last F season with the same tag. Sort of like a second chance.

Youth can hunt the entire season with a shotgun or bow.

Bag limit is one legal bearded turkey per hunter, no party hunting.

Killed a lot of birds in your “backyard” BearCat.

Urban encroachment has taken away many of my top private spots … but if you have permission to hunt close to these new home sites, well then.

Turkeys always congregate into big flocks in winter and disperse pretty far out once the snow melts. This year, this winter, I would imagine areas with more readily accessible food sources would really pull them in (an unharvested corn field must be a beehive of turkeys) or they are being pushed towards the roads because that is the easiest way to traverse the snow covered land.

Most fields have been covered with pretty deep snow until last week when some bare ground finely showed itself… then this new storm approaches.

Oh I have already been stalking and scouting. I have permission to bow hunt turkey on a few local farm fields. The turkeys haven’t left the area since muzzle loader season. I want to take one via bow and the kid to shotgun one. I should be able to make it happen within 2 miles of home.

What zone are you hunting in? Near your residence by North Branch?

    225. I did some talking to the farmers and land owners here and have permission to hunt a handful of different properties which all back up to 800 acres of public land. But the turkeys have been favoring 2 different properties. I’m hoping to not have to much trouble sticking one with a arrow. And I’m sure the kid will get his with my 12 gauge.

Don’t let a road or zone impede you.

Although hunters are not restricted to a permit area, hunters who register a turkey will be required to provide the permit area where they harvested their bird.
