I was hunting NE metro this last week in my first archery turkey season. I did a lot of research on shot placement and felt confident.
I had a gobbler at 8 yards and was able to draw back and get a broadside shot. I thought it was a good hit, right on the wing butt. I am shooting 60# and a NAP Spitfire Doublecross Mech. broad head. The arrow deflected off the bird and ended up where the bird stood. The bird ran into the woods in seemingly good health.
I am beyond belief that the broad head that demolished a bucks’ shoulder blade 5 months earlier couldn’t crack up a turkey. At the scene lay cut wing feathers and some down on the tip of the broad head. I read after that maybe the wing butt angle deflected the arrow? Maybe a blade was already deployed before I shot? Would love some thoughts. Thanks
