I was thinking of taking the Daughter ( 11 year old ) up to Central Minnesota ( Staples / Motley area ) on the weekend of April 18th. The current 10 day forecast is not looking all that Great for warm Temp’s ( for that weekend or between now and then ) Anyone on here live in that General area and can tell me if you have been seeing much for activity yet? Being that the youth license is good for all season long I’m not in a hurry. Just want to try and time it the best I can to make it a fun experience for her. The Following weekend ( 25-29 ) is the C season and myself and 2 buddies are hunting that season. Was hoping to get the daughter out the weekend before when the birds have had less pressure and there are fewer of us in the Area. I guess there is no harm in Taking her up both weekends and play it according to the weather. Last year hunting with her in Mid to upper 20’s was not ideal in getting her excited on the sport. She hung in there rather well and we heard a fair # of birds and saw several while driving around the area, so that was cool and she seems to enjoy the weekend despite the poor weather. Hope we can get her out there during the prime time this year and show her a great show. I think see will become hooked rather fast then.

I live in the area and the weather app I use says lows around 33 with highs in the upper 50’s but of course that could change.

Took a drive to Long Prairie this morning and once I got south of Browerville I saw turkeys in fields with some strutters. Activity has picked up in the area over the last week.

Thanks for the Info. Kind of what I was seeing for weather as well. I think I’ll just wait till mid next week to make the call rather to bring her up or not. Hopefully by mid week the forecast for next weekend will improve some. A few warm days with some sun in the forecast is what I hope to see. Nice to hear the activity in the area is picking up.

I will be out tomorrow checking things out. I’ll post here what I find. From talking to a few people the birds are getting more active as of late. Warm this weekend And parts of next week.

Just my luck. The weather forecast for the weekend keeps getting worse as it gets closer. What started out the week as a forecast of Low 70’s and Sunny for Sat. and Upper 60’s and mostly Sunny for Sun. is now Upper 60’s cloudy and a 50% chance of rain for Sat. and Low 50’s with a 80% chance of rain for Sun. If it was me hunting alone it would be no big deal. With the 11 year old daughter it stinks. I think we will give it a try anyway. Hopefully we can get a decent Sat. morning hunt out of it and get lucky and not have to worry about Sun. If nothing else there is always the following weekend to get her out with all the rest of us boy’s.

I think I’m going to wish I had invested in one of those pop up blinds after all. May have to swing by Cabela’s on the way up tomorrow afternoon

Weather looks decent up this way on Saturday. Sunday and Monday look to be tough.

Good luck if you and your daughter get out.
