Tungten not created equal? Prices wildly vary from same brand

So, I saw that Acme who makes the Kastmaster lure also makes Tungsten Jig Heads which run apprx. $5.49. I then saw that they now make the Kastmaster spoon in Tungsten which are obviously much larger than the jig heads and use a lot more Tungsten. I just picked a few of these up at Thorne Bros. Fly Angler in Blaine for $4.49 to $5.99 each.

Different companies may pay more or less for their raw Tungsten but I’m assuming Acme pays the same for all of theirs. Perhaps they are using a lower grade Tungsten but maybe there isn’t such a thing and all Tungsten is the same, I’m not a metallurgy expert.

I’m assuming the Tungsten costs Acme the same since it is one company so how can they make the much larger Tungsten Kastmaster spoon for the same price as their Tungsten Jig Heads?

How can the spoons be much larger and use far more Tungsten but be the same price?

Wouldn’t that mean that they have a certain price point, apprx. $4.59 to $5.99 and that Tungsten doesn’t cost that much?

Perhaps the cost is in manufacturing/finishing and the spoons are easier to produce than the jigs. There’s more to pricing than raw materials.

Why would you even need a tungsten spoon? I don’t own a single tungsten jig that I know of devil

Or the markup is massive and the material costs are peanuts and they price them according to maximizing profit (volume vs margin). My guess is the material cost to make a tungsten jig is tiny and dominated by the hook and the packaging / distribution cost and not the blob of tungsten that surrounds it.

I thought I saw a 2 oz. tungsten sinker for like $15 or something.

Very small profile heavy weight spoon don’t flutter on the fall. Now for casting and reeling them back, that might be very useful.

Nobody buys raw tungsten, jig come preformed for manufacturers to epoxy paint or glue to their hook style.

Things are worth what people will pay, as long as we keep paying $5.99 for one jig, lot’s of companies out there willing to help us do it.

Supply and Demand, not cost to produce, determines the price of a product. (Cost of production does factor into the supply side)

exactly as Whateverbites says ! Why does a new empty 5# or 10# propane tank sell for more than the 20#?

Things aren’t priced based on how much they cost to make… they’re priced based on how much the consumer is willing to pay. Once you realize that, everything makes more sense.

But even in this case regular Acme Tungsten Jigs cost $2.25… the $5.49 jigs have some gimmicky swivel/slider BS that makes them cost more.

    supply and demand
    labor costs

most of these people selling tungsten teardrops are buying them in giant bulk orders from alibaba where the hook is already soldered in. its like .30-80 a jig depending upon how many you order. you can also get the body without the hook a little cheaper. but i guarantee most are not.

I can not wonder the amounted of confusion the N.H. Fish& Game caused by finding a dead loon on a beach with a lead jig in it in 2015. How many ice fisherman have snap lines??? I really think I smell a RAT and that RAT has a Wall Street address. Its MONEY and not dead loons. What going to happen to all those lead lures.sinkers,lines.etc…they end up polluting all those landfills for the next century. States pass laws without looking pass their noses. I sorry I have caused anybody any grief. God Bless…RHLP
