Just picked up a TUCR Fusion. It will be my go to rod for jigging spoons and smaller raps for crappies, perch, and smaller walleyes. Just wondering what everyone would suggest for the main line, braid, floro, etc…
Will also use it on Red Lake using 1/16 to 1/8 oz spoons for eyes.

I have mine spooled with 10# Blue camo suffix 832 ice to a small barrel swivel and then about 20″ of any low diameter fluro you have, I use 8#. Just make sure that your leader is short enough that you can hook the lure into the hook keeper without the swivel getting into the top guide.

I have had good luck running 4-6# Suffix Ice Magic or PLine Floroclear on my small spoon rod. The being said I gave Frost Ice Premium braid a try this year and really liked it compared to other braids. I fish outside of a shack 90% of the time and the ice up was comparable to co-polymers and fluorocarbon lines. I also run a barrel swivel and leader similar to Dan Baker.

Do you use that heavy of line for crappies?

Yes, i use the same line for crappie and walleye on my Fusion. If the crappie are really finicky, I would be using the Bullwhip with a tungsten.

Great post. I have a 32” fusion and spooled with 6# mono. Seams to me to be a little dull transfer of the hit at 30’. Does the ice braid help with that. TUCR guys have been great with other suggestions ie maybe the QT or precision. I have a friend using the 36 precision and likes it for trout. Power curve seams alittle slow the QT suppose to have a faster power pickup. Alittle concerned with a yo-yo effect using 1/8 jigs on the QT Any help appreciated I am heading back up to ID next weekend and looking for one more rod to take hole hopping. Live in CO and cannot put my hands on these to compare. Thanks again for this site

I much prefer the feel of braid. It is much more sensitive and it has very low memory, so I can leave the same line on the spool for a couple of seasons, versus having to re-spool every year with mono. They only time I use mono is on my noodle rods, so I can use tiny diameter mono and not have to worry about visibility, and on my dead stick, since bobber stops slip on braid. In my personal opinion, the Fusion felt more sensitive to me than the Quick Tip. But others will argue the exact opposite. It’s a personal preference thing.

When not freezing up I really like the braid on my Precision and Commander. And I like the security of having braid on the QT. Adds some additional power to the lighter rods.

Thanks guys for the detailed responses. Frenchman I like your motto “ the tug is the drug”. My wife states that mine is “ the journey is the destination”. At least she is all in on the journeys with me.
I am still looking for the additional hole hopping rod sounds like the braid will help the fusion out now it is either the QT or precision???

One more question I have a 36” QT coming. Does anyone use braid on that rod to get better feel ??? Or is an ice mono working. Again depths at 30’ thanks

I believe most people use braid at those depths if freezing isn’t an issue.

For panfish I have had great success using a 4# mono/co-polymer in those depths. That being said a braided line would not be a bad thing especially since I run a leader with a swivel already and gives you a little more peace of mind.

The rod feels much better with braid if you’re going to try for walleye. I was using 6# braid and a 4# fluorocarbon leader after trying multiple other line combos. The rod is so light and slow that putting a stretchy line on it amounts to too much give with bigger fish like walleye.

With the walleye season closure coming, I’ve been using it as strictly a bluegill/crappie spoon rod with 1/32-1/16oz spoons in 12-20 FOW. My three biggest bluegills of the season have come in the last two weeks on the combo. I put a 500 size Shimano reel on it rather than a 1000 size, and just put 3lb fluorocarbon on it. It was strong enough to handle a 4lb Osakis largemouth last week. It balances a little better with the smaller reel.

I’m much happier with this rod as a panfish/Perch rod than a walleye rod. I was going to sell it but now I bring it along on every panfish trip for spoons, since they’re such a great tool for getting bigger fish out of a pack of dinks.

Thanks again for the help. Got the rod yesterday put 6#feost ice braid with 4# flor. Heading for ID on Friday looking forward to fishing with it. I will have to say with getting into ice fishing the different rod action discription are all over the board. Ie fusion slower action thru the entire distance of the rod found that to be true. with the QT softer tip that hits its backbone faster. I would describe as nice softer tip that’s hit the wall of the back bone faster. I thought that there would be alittle more action transition than hitting a solid stick. I am looking forward in getting some diff aized fish on it. It ought to have great sensitivity. Tip action seems good even with 1/8 jigs out of the water

Mann4ducks – How did the QY and Fusion setups work for you to finish out the season? As I said earlier I have a QT and really enjoy that rod for. Was also able to get a Fusion and Bullwhip in the off season and cannot wait to try them out!

I have #4 braided Spider wire on my Fusion and I really like it. I fish it both for panfish and walleye. I’m thinking I will take it to Devils Lake this year as I think it’s the perfect jumbo perch set up. I have a Pflueger Monarch on it and it performs well.

I have a Precision coming and I have a Piscifun IceX5 reel spooled with #6 Spider wire waiting to go on it. I’ve been eyeing the Elliott rods as well I really need to go to the fun store and handle one of those.

I really like the QT. Nice tip and hits the power fast and still had the action to hang on to fish. Did not particularly fond of the fusion. Takes a lot of travel to get a hook set. The rod is parabolic granted I am coming from a warm water fast action background. The fusion did real well on two 20” smallies that were a bonus in ID. I know that it is not for LT but with the action worked OK at 70’ for 20” fish if I could get a hook set I was asking too much of the rod for that but wanted to see. I picked up a siscowet 46 late last season to target the larger LT here in CO. My buddy ordered a TU LT waiting to see how that one is and works. He had a very large LT on last year on a precision 1:25hrs got off it was a “knife in a gun fight.” So the TU LT I am looking to get another QT for the perch in ID this year.

Yeah, the Fusion for sure, and the Precision to a less extent would be very outmatched with Lake Trout. The Commander is the lightest I’d like to go. The LTP is a straight-up meat stick and will handle any fish you hook into.

I used my 31” Fusion on Red last year and couldn’t put it down. It’s a very fun rod for those sized walleye. I use braid w/ mono leader.

I am with Frenchmen on the fact that I have run P-line Floroclear on most of my rods actually and the stuff is extremely abrasion resistant lol ASK ME HOW I KNOW! coffee
