Looking for opinions, I am looking for a rod an all around light action rod for jigging panfish/perch/small walleye spoons and jigging raps. I am on the fence between the TUCR fusion and the DH perch pounder. Anybody have any info to help with the decision?

If you go through my recent thread titled “dh and tuned up custom vs Thorne bros rods” you may find some helpful information.

I can say that in terms of custom order wait times…tucr probably has DH beat unless DH happens to not be too busy.

Handles-they both offer cork handles…a few different sizes from DH. Tucr offers the Eva foam handles, both make split grip handles. The one outlier in handles is DH with his abs plastic 3D printed handles in multiple sizes and a few designs you won’t see elsewhere.

I haven’t looked at the perch pounder from DH, but I have recently looked at the fusion and quicktip from tucr. The fusion has a pretty light tip, sits right between the Thorne bros quiverstick and panfish sweetheart. Difference being a bit different action and backbone. I’ve seen some compare the perch pounder to the perch sweetheart from Thorne bros…so knowing that I would guess that it’s got a stiffer tip then the fusion.

I would also suggest looking at the quicktip from tucr unless you are set on a slower action rod.

I have the DH Perch Pounder for a few seasons and early this year I added the TUCR Fusion. There is a noticeable difference to me. If I am going for perch, with some smaller walleyes mixed in (generally under 18in) and crappies, the Fusion would be my choice. If I was going for Perch and walleyes specifically, I would go with the Perch Pounder. The Fusion feels like a light power rod than the Perch Pounder but both seem like a medium action style rod rather that a fast or x-fast tip

Both are great rods, but are quite a bit different from each other.

I personally prefer a perch pounder, or Thorne brothers perch sweetheart for light walleye. Maybe look at the precision if you want a tucr. Fusion is more panfish than walleye for my use.

I built a rod on the Perch Pounder blank and have only handled the Fusion. My recollection of both rods is the Perch Pounder is faster and has more power. A little stiffer in both tip and backbone I think. The Fusion bends well into the blank but the DH blank gets into the backbone quicker.

In regards to the comlarison between the DH Perch Pounder and Thorne Perch Sweetheart they are similar. The tip on the Sweetheart may be slightly stiffer but not by a lot. I do think the Sweetheart has heavier backbone, especially if built longer than about 32 inches.

I think both of the rods would do what you want, choice coming down to personal preference. If you want a faster rod you might like the DH rod but if using braid and you want a more moderate action look into the Fusion.

I can’t speak for the DH but I have a couple of 32 inch fusions and they will do what you are describing really well as that’s mainly what I use mine for. The fusion also makes a great walleye dead stick
