I’ve never tried for tullibee on the pond. I’m probably going out with a buddy later this week who wants to get some for the smoker. I am looking for resort recommendations and any tips you might have.

Your best bet will be to go out to the flats and fish in basin areas near flats. 32-36ft deep.
I was out there yesterday looking for perch and we got a few tulibee out on the main break out from hunters point. There were quite a few people that went out to the flats from there. I’d call before going up, I’m assuming most resorts will be shutting down their roads this week.

What access/resort is closest to the flats? Thanks

Get up there now if you can. Probably the best tullibee fishing on Mille Lacs in a long time (years). This weekend might be last shot as the warm weather on Sunday may take out the accesses.

Go out of Randy’s on SW side. Friend of mine was just there and hammered them and he’s no expert.

He was generous enough to mark the spot too. waytogo

    lol

I can only imagine you shouting out loud when you hen-pecked that comment.

FWIW, there’s a limit of 10 tullibee pp on Mille Lacs and this group of 3 was still 4 fish under their limit.

And actually, the tullibee population is much better than it used to be. They cycle, and their mortality is far more from die-offs in summer than angler harvest. At Mille Lacs they’re at the southern edge of their range and many perish in summer when water temps exceed their tolerance. Their spike in population is courtesy of some cooler summers the last few years.

As far as perch? They’re being eaten up by all the overabundant big walleyes still in the lake. roll

My buddy decided not to come up with the wind on Thurs. Doesn’t have another day off until Tues. Hoping somebody’s access survives the weekend.

Another one of the benefits of calling yourself a pro is that it gives you the privilege of aimlessly disrespecting others.

Did you think I’d just leave it that? I’m just a student, so I’m still learning.

    My next question…

Fishing Mille Lacs for 45 years and you never happen to notice a whole bunch of dead tullibees floating in the middle of summer?

My buddy decided not to come up with the wind on Thurs. Doesn’t have another day off until Tues. Hoping somebody’s access survives the weekend.

It won’t matter whether the accesses are open or not, because by next Tuesday all the tullibee will have been fished out of the lake. jester

“LMAO” instead of laughing maybe you could you just be more clear? None of us know what you’re trying to say. Other than claiming that you are not disrespecting anyone…

Well, my buddy still hasn’t come up. I did catch a 17″er on Sullivan Lake last Sunday morning. I’m probably done ice fishing for the year with the rain coming today.
