What to do while waiting for ice? Go catch fish of course. The bite on the Mississippi river went pretty well for us on Tuesday. Caught about 25 nice walleyes pitching Pulsars and Moxies to wingdams and rock piles. 3/16ths and 1/8th ounce H20 jigs and Draggin jigs. Jon scored the biggest of the night with a nice 27″er. Dustin and I had a few in the 26″ range. Plenty of nice fat walleyes in the low 20″ range.

I feel I’ll be fishing vicariously through your guys reports for the fall here. Awesome fish, looks like the night bite is cracking.

Why the dragging jigs? Is it strictly snag resistance, or is the slim head design allowing more play in the baits, resistance, etc.

Thanks for the pics, keep em coming!

The Draggin jigs just dont snag up for me. No problem throwing them into wood or other snaggy areas, shallow rocks. I tend to like to throw up river at spots to. Seem to be asking to get hung up doing this with a regular jig. 6hrs of pitching rocks tuesday and never lost a jig. That says a lot right there.

One trade off to Draggin jigs is you do not feel bottom as well. They tend to glide over things and you dont get that thunk like with a regular jig. Guess I have the confidence in the jig to know its where it needs to be. Fish will tell you also. Others seem to like that feel of the bottom to know where the jig is.

Sure hope this rain doesnt mess up the bite. I see the river was up close to a foot this morning.

Good to see you guys had fun out there!! I thought that the S winds would have been a pain but it really wasn’t too bad. We had about the same results with size as you guys but only about a dozen fish and a few that got away. We were trying some new things and left the plastics at home. After reading your report I regret not having them along )

Fun trip, Mike! Looking forward to this weekend. I’m guessing the river will be back down pretty quick.

I notice you are fishing at night are you fishing at night because it gets dark so early or do you find the fishing is better after dark?

Trying to get in a little fishing after work during the week fishing after dark is about the only option. That is unless I can sneak out of work a little early.
