In the latest IDO episode it looks like James and PJ are using the new TUCR Vulcan with the smaller spoons. Wondering how they handle that? Be awesome if they could worked will with that size as well as the larger spoons and tubes.

Love the look of the translucent red!!

I would also be curious on the line setup that was used.

The Vulcan is designed to be fished with 3/16th to 3/4 ounce lures. So, just a tad heavier than 1/8th. It has a similar action to the Commander, just a little slower and heavier. It is a fiberglass rod rather than the graphite of the Commander.

I have mine rigged with 7# Fluoro on an Okuma CBF1000 Baitfeeder.

Thanks Dan! I have a Commander and it is a bit fast for me so I am curious on the Vulcan. Dual purpose as a set rod I might be in.

Yeah, it’s really designed to be a Lighter option than the LTP for big fish, and a heavier, more forgiving version of the commander, while pairing really well with the iFishPo. It a really dynamic rod. Probably not the best choice for your primary walleye jigging rod, but a great larger lure addition.

What length did you end up going with?

I also just picked up a 38” Vulcan to run in my ifish pro. Had it out on red for the first time this weekend and it worked well. I would say that it’s a little heavy for those size fish but should be awesome on Mille Lacs (where I keep my fish house).

I have a 38″ Vulcan coming for my iFish Pro Setup. Can’t wait to try it out and after seeing the episode how it works for jigging on mille lacs and bigger walleye lakes.

I was surprised to see them using it with the smaller 1/8oz spoons. If it can handle those well I would be very impressed.

I have a 36 inch TUCR Vulcan and it is the perfect rod for an iFishPro. I don’t use it jigging just because I have other rods for that. I like that the eyelets are larger so it doesn’t move your bobber slip when reeling it in. I put 7lb fluorocarbon on it.

It looks like James and PJ are using some lighter, softer rods for their ifishpros. Yet most people, on this thread anyway, are buying much bigger/longer/heavier rods for their set lines. I’d curious to know which is recommended or has had better results. I’ve got just a super cheap little light rod on mine and I dont think I have missed one yet because of it.

I’ll have to watch the video again because i didn’t catch what rods they were using. I feel like the James and the rest of the guys usually use the TUCR dead stick on the ifish pros (which was my 2nd choice). After a conversation at the TUCR shop, I went with a longer/heavier rod to pick up more line on the hook set in deep water.

I honestly think that just about any rod will work and it is personal preference and how you like to fish.

    For those that have one:

Reel seat or no? I’m waiting for some Xmas GC to come in and plan on ordering one. Usually this type of rod (Lakers, pike, heavy dead stick) where one runs a larger reel I would usually lean towards a reel seat.

Nice or just go with the 8” cork?
(Not a fan of the Eva on my BW).

I have no reel seat on my 38″ Vulcan with the 8″ cork handle. Doing it again, I would do a reel seat. I actually broke my rear reel tape setting the hook on a Winnipeg walleye last season.

    Dan,
Thanks for the feedback. I’m kind of leaning that way.

I’ve had a similar experience on heavier rods. Tape either flexes a bit and you can feel the reel “wiggling” a bit. I’ve also had the silicone tape I typically use bust as well. That time it was likely my fault for being cheap and only using one wrap but it was likely all I had left when mounting the reel (knowing me).
