For those of you who own or have used a TUCR quick tip, how does it compare to the Jason Mitchell Meatstick in terms of tip sensitivity?

I don’t have a TUCR, but the equivalent rod from Thorne Bros and fished with a JM meat stick for a few years before upgrading and I can say they are not even in the same ball park. I would say like riding a big wheel vs. a cadillac.

I haven’t used the Meat Stick, but did pick up a Quick Tip last year and was very impressed. Primarily used it for perch and walleyes but the visible bit detection is very similar to the Bullwhip (used 1/16oz spoons on the Quick tip). I plan to try it with some tungsten jigs for panfish this year too. Don’t get me wrong, it does have plenty of backbone for walleyes

Not really talking about quality as of course the TUCR will be much better in that sense. I am referring to the softness of the tip. I use the JM right now so I an wondering how the TUCR compares with the tip.

The TUC quick tip is a carbon rod with a fast tip, much closer to what a panfish carbon rod would be but stronger backbone still.

A JM meatstick is a noodle rod, best to compare the TUC precision noodle. The Bullwhip is a fiberglass rod also but has a more stout tip and backbone then both. Better with pounding heavier jigs.

x2, somewhat apples and oranges in comparison

Is there a specific presentation or need behind your questions? I’m a big fan of the JM Meatstick but like everything else, some days it’s great and some it’s the wrong tool for the job.

Thanks a bunch, it’s mostly used for perch here in SD but may need to be a decent rod for gills this coming winter. The JM has served me well and seems to be about just right so I’d like to stay similar when upgrading.

I use the quick tip on all panfish. It is my favorite perch rod I own. When the gills and crappies are biting very light I switch over to a noodle but it’s been fun using it and actually feeling the bites versus seeing them. You could always look at the Bullwhip. I have that rod and I would call it a slightly heavier version of the meatstick. I have been happy with both of the TUCR I own.

If it helps I always bring two rods when going for panfish. One is the Meatstick and one is a light action carbon rod with braid line.

Since the rods have such different action there are days when one shines way over the other. The Meatstick gives a more of a slow or swimming motion to the lure. The carbon rod give it a much faster or popping/snapping. Some days this really matters.

FWIW – my advice is to get a nice carbon rod to partner with but not replace the Meatstick. Best of both worlds. If you’re looking to upgrade the noodle rod then definitely take a look at the bullwhip.
