This is from this past February on superior. You can’t see the rod much but you get to see one little run he made. It’s a 45″ LTP.

My next LTP will have a longer butt. Fighting big lakers in deep water can be hard on your forearm. A little extra length will take some of the strain off.

Here are a few photos of fish landed on it this year.

I snapped some close ups here. The last 4 (red wraps) are of a 42″ custom LTP by TUCR with titanium rec guides, and a cork handle/reel seat. The first two pictures (blue wraps) are of a 38″ LTP with eva/reel seat.

I like 10″ from the reel stem to the rod butt. You want the butt close to your elbow but not past it, so the handle length will vary based on how long your forearm is and how you hold the rod.

The longer handle makes a huge difference in fatigue from fighting fish and jigging heavy baits all day.

What’s the longest these TUCR LTPs can be built?

They are a custom rod maker and are eager to give you what you want. Your LTP will likely be made to order because they really don’t stock them. Give em a call.

Thanks for the super helpful response. I’ve bought plenty of TUCRs so I’m familiar with how they operate. I know John is active on this site so I think I’ll wait for his response to this thread about the LTP.

    38″ is the shortest.
50″ is the longest thus far. (they kinda get long after that in a shack)

They are truly custom because we do build these to the longest we can get in the customers case. We should get them on the site but with a lot more options, in length and handle size we prefer to talk/email people about these.

    Thank guys

Thanks for that info, John. Gotta appreciate a quick response like that.

A laker stick is a rod that will never see the inside of a shack for me. That’s why I was curious what the longest you could build them. Basically wondering the length of the blank you are using for the LTP.

I think you’d be surprised how long of a stick you can effectively use in a shack. I opted for a 45″ and had absolutely no issues catching lake trout. As long as you stay on top of feeling during a chase, there’s no reason to hit the top of the shack during a hook set.

Hopefully that was more helpful for you…
