TUCR LTP

From earlier posts you may have heard me stress my favor for TUCR’s Lake Trout Precision. My first model was a standard setup in a 38″ length so it would fit in my rod bag. After landing a few dozen Lakers I have been more than impressed with its ability to take control over a Laker and simply own some of the hardest fighting freshwater fish. No other rod that I had used before gave me that kind of presentation control along with the stiff upper hand during battle. But….. I found something I like even more than a TUCR LTP….. 2 more TUCR LTP’s! I called The guys at TUCR up and explained what I felt the most absolutely perfect Lake Trout rod would be for me. I told John how I wanted the tip end to have just the right play in it so I could easily detect the moment of impact when a Laker engulfs a lure in a fast paced chase, yet still sturdy like a rock for powerful-drag-peeling hook sets. I said I wanted the titanium rec guides to shed water from the line, so I didn’t have to free the ice from the guides or the reel mid-chase. All wrapped up in red so it matches my LX6. So they came in the mail the other day and I got to break them in today, and I was shocked at how perfect they turned out; everything I wanted in my ideal rod and then some! Sure as the rain falls, I finessed 2 picky trout into the kill zone and fought them like a beast to the top after a few peeling runs. Success isn’t really the word here, I think Victory is more appropriate. My new LTPs didn’t just do well, they destroyed their adversary and sang lamentations to their offspring!

Good review. I got to finally use mine on superior a few times and I’m really impressed. I knew I would like it better than my other rods so now I’m considering another.

This time I think I’m gonna add about 4″ onto the handle so I can plant it into my armpit for those long battles with those 15+lb pigs.

That cherry red sure creates a sharp looking rod Ben!

While you couldn’t be more right about what a great rod the LTP is my favorite part of your post is the story within the story. It’s not just that the custom rods that Tuned Up produces are awesome (they are) but more then that is the customer service that they provide which is super hard to find these days… John, Adam, Corey, Todd, or anyone else will field multiple calls to make sure they get your order exactly how you want it which is very rare. Just another reason why I’m hooked on Tuned Up!

Here’s a quick pic of my LTP in action a week ago.

That fish is a PIG Biggill, I really want to hit LS at least once this year, but it’s tough to leave the local stomping grounds while the fish are so hot! The 2 new LTPs are both 42″ the extra 4″ makes a big difference for me! Will, you’re exactly right about the crew at TUCRs. I’m still learning when it comes to rod pairing and they get that. If I knew all the technical terms, diameters, etc… Then anyone with the right equipment could probably make me a good rod. The fact of the matter is that when I’m ordering a rod from TUCRs my end of the conversation sounds more like an artist’s description of a painting he hasn’t even purchased the canvas for yet. They pick up on what my vision is and make an exact replica of my dream rod and yes, the cherry red looks pretty sweet!
