Saw and got to handle a tucr commander seems like a nice rod anyone got anything to say about it? Mainly going to be used to chase down lake trout in Colorado.

The Commander will handle small to medium lake trout. If you are targeting monsters, the Admiral or the LTP may suit you better.

Lakers up to 15# and lures up to 0.75 oz = Commander. If you’re going to be fishing heavier lures, slab spoons or big tubes with heavy heads or have a legit shot at a beastie pushing 30#, I’d recommend the LTP.
PS – if you opt for the Commander for lakers get it with a long straight cork handle. Skip the split grip.
Ahh man the store only has the split grip! Why is that?
More leverage on hook sets and fighting big fish.

Order it online. Cabelas ships free and takes 2 days

Exactly. See attached photo. On the left is a split grip. On the right I have a Commander of the same length with an 8″ cork handle. Notice how much further forward you can move the reel versus the split grip. It might not look like a big deal but having your hand forward and the back of the longer handle up under your forearm really makes fishing heavier baits, or fighting larger fish for 10 minutes or more, a lot less fatiguing and lot more enjoyable. The split grip is fine when fishing walleye but if I was going to buy a Commander specifically for lake trout duty I would get one with an 8″ – 10″ cork handle.
I prefer to have reel seats on the ice rods . Does the commander have the option to have them.

Absolutely. Unlike so many of the rod companies out there with “Custom” in their name, Tuned Up Customs is actually a custom rod shop which means they can and will build you a Commander any way you want it. You could have a 33 and 3/4 inch rod, any reel seat you desire… and pink and purple thread wrappings if that’s what you’ve got in mind. Give ’em a call or shoot them an email. https://tunedupcustomrods.com/
I asked a guy there if they could build me a rod with regular guides on it-the reply was Nope, and then questioning me as to why I wanted them.Doesnt matter why, thats what I want.Went elsewhere and got a rod with regular guides built just how I wanted. So I wouldnt say they will build whatever you want.

Oh yeah, my bad. I forgot about the small print. They will build anything for anybody, unless your name is Matt.
