TUCR Bullwhip – What Lb Mono?

Tossing around the idea of getting a Bullwhip at one of the upcoming ice shows. It would be used for perch fishing mostly with small tungsten jigs/plastics or spoons but I wouldn’t want to rule out catching a smaller walleye by accident :). Normally for panfish I use 2lb or 3lb on some lighter noodle rods, I was thinking of 3lb or 4lb mono on a Bullwhip. Does anyone use 4lb on a Bullwhip or would that line take some action away from the rod?

Get to one of the shows early so you can get the length and grip you want. I think they are going to go fast again this year.
I just picked up my Bullwhip on Wednesday and I was planning on 3LB but we will see what anyone else says.

I ran 3lb mono on mine last year and it did very well for big crappies and gills and also jumbo perch.

Once thing on my mind is I’m going to Devils Lake over new years, going out with the Perch Patrol, should I play it a little safer and go with 4lb? I’m taking some heavier rods too but if it is a finesse bite, I want to bring a lighter rod for small jigs/plastics. For fishing around my area, I would be fine with 3lb on the Bullwhip

I used 4# flouro on my bull whip last winter when I was fishing larger pan fish and I didn’t notice any negative impact on rod action. Pick a limp line that doesn’t coil up in the cold and you’ll be in good shape.

Thanks for the info. I’ve never tried a Flouro in the winter, I would have though they would be very stiff in the winter. I was thinking the Sufix Ice Magic 4lb mono but I see they make an Ice Flouro, is that what you are referring to?

I have tried P-line Flouro in the winter and that was pretty stiff

This is the stuff. I was very impressed with how it handled in the cold. Just about all my “non-braid” ice rods are spooled with it now.
