got to try out the new bullwhip on some beauty gills, and i am very pleased with the visual and the sensitivity of this rod!! i chose to get the 28″ just for the fact that i mainly fish out of a one man shelter. when it comes to big gills i am very passionate, and critical about the equipment that i use, this rod just shot up to the top of my go to arsenal!! also included some previous ice gill pictures for visual pleasure

Very nice fish! It didn’t take me long to fall in love with my bullwhip either. It really does a great job filling that spot between the noodle and the Quick tip!

G/f ordered me one for X-mas and there was a little mix up on my order so I’m still waiting, ironically I coulda used it this past weekend fishing a basin for big crappies, it would have been perfect but things happen and the waiting game is still on. Glad to hear you like the rod and very nice fish.

I’ll echo everyone else’s comments. I’ve come to expect to see pictures of you holding sumo gills. Nice work as always, and thanks for all the pics!

Just curious what rod was your favorite before the bullwhip?

    claytondavis,

What’s the smallest jig you personally feel comfortable fishing with the new bullwhip? I watched the new IDO show on youtube just now, and saw James using his BW with a UL rippin rap which kind of surprised me.

for chasing big gills i have a few favorite setups, for ultra light tackle and light biters i like to go to my Thorne Bros trip wire rod. i have found that on some days even the biggest of gills need to be finessed, and they will be very light biters. on the other hand, fishing in deeper waters 15 to 20 feet just out side the weed edges i found that trying to get back down to the gills fast was not working out so well with ultra light jigs, and putting a tungsten on a springbobber rod i was over loading it and tough to see the bite. That is where the bullwhip comes in very handy!! the other day i was fishing in 16 feet of water, the gills were stacked up and i needed to get down fast. I tied a tungsten jig on the bullwhip it was a perfect match up, i visually saw the bite and felt it as well!! the action of the rod is very nice and fun while fighting a hard fighting fish like the bluegill. I believe this will be an awesome rod on jumbos as well!! hope this helps, thanks for looking!!

Cool thanks for the reply, I have a quiverstick getting the tripwire put on tmrw, and I have a panfish sweetheart with the tripwire which I’m also bringing in because it fell off, so that makes sense and I’ll ride it out til the BW comes. Thanks again.

I have a new Bullwhip that just arrived. It’ll be put to a serious test early next week. Can’t wait!

What are the actual length of those gills? I can already tell how long your arms are.
