Can you use this rod for walleyes?

They were designed for heavier tungsten jigs ang big bull bluegills hence the name. I caught a couple 15-17″ walleye’s last week while jigging for perch midday and it handled them just fine. But wouldn’t be used for eyes myself as the target species.

I have to agree with Kent. They have a very good variety of rods to target certain species that will cross over to others but if I was looking for a walleye rod I wouldn’t start with the bullwhip.

Give the boys at TUCR a call and they will recommend versions on what you inform them on what you would like (hence “custom”).

You will not be sorry and not pressured.

I used my Bullwhip last week for the first time (Devils Lake). Main target was perch and that was a lot of fun. I did catch a few smaller walleyes and it handled it just fine but I wouldn’t use that rod when targeting walleyes. Plus its not designed for jigging 1/8oz or bigger baits

I used mine as a deadstick rod this weekend on Upper Red, with a VMC glow epoxy treble tipped with fatheads and a very small split shot. It handled the walleyes well, but the biggest I caught on it was 19″. I wouldn’t use it for the big girls, or to jig any bigger baits.

    Brandon,

Not to hijack this thread, but do you still need a blade with those trebles to stay legal in MN or are they considered a lure because of the epoxy?

I believe the regs in 2012 updated the number of hooks you could have, allowing trebles and not requiring a spinner.

If you want a good rod for walleyes I’d look into the quick tip from tucr
