Anyone see the latest Farmers Insurance commercial with the ice fisherman driving up on the ice and the truck breaking through…Farmers said they covered it..

Ive heard that some insurances policies cover one break through. Seems people would get riskier knowing its covered.

I hope I never need to find out if I’m covered.

This came up some winters ago and I was rebuked for claiming insurance doesn’t cover vehicles breaking through the ice….pun intended.

I’d think that they would try and deny people who were not using common sense though?

Common sense would suggest one say off the ice, especially in a motor vehicle.

Common sense I guess could also say stay off the road and park it in an fortified parking spot? coffee

Less trucks break through the ice than get in accidents in parking lots. don’t use parking lots

I don’t understand insurance 100%. I guess my prejudices towards insurance companies is unfounded.

But if I call my agent about driving on a frozen lake, he’ll laugh at me.

With only liability coverage YOU will responsible for the removal expenses. Might get a little pricey if you have to get a tow company and scuba divers involved.:???:

My insurance company says as long as it’s covered with comprehensive they will cover the removal and the vehicle. They will not help with the fines though.

Geico wouldn’t insure an Ice Castle because it was “Designed to be used on the ice”

I wouldn’t want to test them on covering a vehicle either.

Where’s Big Werm? I go through him for my insurance with State Farm. I’m not sure if I’m covered or not. Curious now.

Yup, you are covered bud, as long as you have full coverage (comp)! We will cover the damage to the vehicle as well as the retrieval of your vehicle. For those of you curious I would recommend checking with your insurance agent to see if retrieval is covered, and also if it’s covered everywhere on a lake or just on lake roads. I’m only familiar with our policies which does cover those scenarios, but have heard of other companies that don’t. There can be significant differences in what is covered from one company to another (particularly on Homeowner’s).

I remember calling an 800# years ago and asking about my truck being covered on the ice. I end up on the ice 6-7 times a year at events that are work related…. The young lady on the other end with a strong southern accent just couldn’t comprehend that I was driving on frozen water. She had never heard of such a thing, and just couldn’t be of any help. It was actually an amusing conversation.

Good to know Im covered not that I plan on going through! Ive had a few conversations with folks down south before about ice fishing and driving on ice and it is amusing, they just have a hard time grasping the concept.

Secura actually covers vehicles going through and also the recovery…I was pleasantly surprised it was something they cover since they seem to have many things they wash their hands from…
