I wish I could say I was surprised but it happens every year on this lake. It freezes up and within that first week some idiot thinks it must be safe to drive on. Lucky the ice was so thin and didn’t make it out to deeper water.

Probably upgraded from his Dodge Neon and thought, “Hey I’ve got a truck now, let’s drive on the ice!”

This has to be a joke, right? No one with any small shred of common sense could believe it is ok to drive any vehicle on the ice, let alone that vehicle.

At that access it is dry ground/sand in the direction from where they were coming from, and it drops into the basin at the access very abruptly. The rear tires are probably on the ground in the picture. Not sure why they would be driving along the shore there, but I suspect the fresh fallen snow covered the sand to ice transition and because the ice is only a few inches thick they went through right away. It doesn’t look like they were actually trying to drive out on the lake.

Which part of the lake did this happen at? I can’t tell from the picture.

Appears to be public access on the north side of the lake

Not sure I would consider than going through the ice. Half the vehicle is on land. Still incredibly stupid.

It looks like another of nature’s attempts at thinning the herd to upgrade the gene pool.

We need good fishing conditions pretty quick, the judginess is taking over in us….

    Thanks for clearing that sculpin!

I shore fish by alot of accesses all times of the year. It’s still suprising to me how many vehicles drive down to park for 5, 10, 50 minutes long at a time on the ramps. Makes me feel good people appreciate the scenery enough to come down even if it’s just to enjoy it in there vehicle for a bit.

Retracting my frustration of their (possible) stupidity now that I’ve read more of the thread that they may have been along the shoreline. Still questionable move IMO.

I think in this case its okay to call a spade a spade. If I didn’t want my truck to go through the ice I wouldn’t be driving it perpendicular with a dock.

He must have been on a test drive and was wondering if it would be worth it to get an off road package. Let’s see if the stock one will work…… doah

I walked out as far as I could get from Bellaire beach west bay yesterday after work and It’s hardly even safe for walking! Went from 5″ to 2″ in certain spots where the wind kept it open last week. Luckily I was spud baring and checking every step.

Looks to me like dealer tags from White Bear Lake Superstore just south on 61.
