Truck/Snowplow Combo

Making a move to a place next week with a pretty long driveway, so we’re looking for options for plowing it. The wife will be doing some when I’m at work so having a cab with heat is a must, i.e. most likely looking at a truck with a plow on the front. Looking online at Craigslist it seems like in the $5,000 range you can sometimes find a truck around model year 2000 with a plow attached and maybe 200k miles. Truck basically needs to run, have heat, and obviously 4WD. Just wondering if anyone had any good thoughts, suggestions, or other places I could look.

    Thanks.

Dan, you’re on the right track. Doesn’t sound like you’re gonna be running 24hrs straight and beating the crap out of it. As long as it’s a solid truck and plow it doesn’t really matter what you get. Just needs to be dependable, especially if you’re going to expect the FW to operate it.

Thanks guys. Munchy, although I’m scared to make eye contact with your profile picture, I appreciate the insight. We’ll plow when it needs plowing and not do much else with it. I’ve gotta be to work at 5am a lot of days so we’ve gotta take plowing matters into our own hands. Sounds like you said, a good working truck/plow combo will do the job.

Probably nothing. Just that in my area much easier to get Western parts. wink

Not sure what you have for lawn equipment but if you have a bigger lawn and have a decent tractor a blower attachment and cab is pretty good. We always had plow trucks and the problem was they never got used enough, dead batteries, bad fuel, etc. It was always something each fall, one extra thing to work on cutting into my hunting time.
