Went from old suburban to 2014 crewcab short box. Totally jacked about getting dog, smelly clothes, etc. out of the truck. Getting a topper and bedrug. Beyond that, what else do you like for the box and topper for fishing, hunting, camping?

Looking at: pullout front topper window, keyless remote, and car lighter power ports.

    Your ideas would be wonderful!

    Hi!
Don’t waste your money on a sliding window for the front of the topper.
Must have: seal kit for the tail gate
I also added a rod rack to the ceiling of the topper, I have a 8′ bed , not sure if the rack would be of much use in a short box?

contractor windows in the topper for easier loading with vents that open for the dogs to get fresh air. Carpet on the inside of the topper so it doesn’t sweat/condensation so bad.

Get rid of the stock tires and throw some 285’s under it!

If you haven’t already bought the topper, get the thickened top for it, think it was not more than 50 bucks more on mine and then it’s got the strength to add a rack or what not later on if you decide to. Second a seal kit on the tailgate, especially if you spend any time on gravel roads.
The other stuff, might not hurt to drive it around for a few months to give you time to figure out what is useful/needed. That way you don’t spend a bunch of money on stuff you think you need now to actually never use it.

If the truck didn’t come with a back up camera add on one’s are pretty cheap if you need the assistance. Used mine a fair amount at first but anymore I’ve backed up enough to both my trailers I can get awfully close without it.

In the truck itself, right now I just have one Tupperware tote I always carry around in the back that stores my tow strap, jumpers, Rachet straps and my two drop hitches. Which brings up another note, if you don’t already take the hitches out of the reciever when your not towing for a while. Helped dad try to remove his last year that hadn’t come out for over a decade, not fun. The lady who rear ended me last winter was thankful also, empty reciever does a lot less damage to a car hood than had the hitch been in. Easier on your shins too when you come around the back too fast.

Agree with removing the hitch. Add a good light to the topper if it doesn’t have a good one.

I always carry a small floor jack and breaker bar with sockets to fit the truck and trailer lugs.

Second the light in the topper, spend the little extra it is for a wired in one. I got the battery one because I was worried that I’d leave it on and kill my truck battery, seems every time I want to use the light now the batteries are dead, even though I barely use it.

Lights are something I need to check into…several LED bar lights available.

Ordered Leer topper, bedrug, keyless remote, drop down front window TODAY!

Looked at truck vault, but I think I can make one to do same job with plywood and 2×4. Keeps guns, waders, small stuff out of harms way. Anybody made anything like this and have plans?

I’m a little late, but I will never buy a “standard” topper. I bought my first “Highliner” in 1995, and been a huge fan since. As much as I crawl up into, sleep in, and use the back of my truck – having the extra head room is so nice. Also has been a real lifesaver when loading larger items.

Sprayed on bedliners for me are a must have.

Over-sized tailgate protector for sliding stuff in and out of the bed of the truck.

If I find a brick of gold before buying my next truck, I’ll be adding a Bed Slide. I saw one of these in a truck and was blown away by its capacity. 400-500# x 36″ slide/rails can easily run $250 -$500. The guy that had this said he paid about a grand for it.

For me a nice looking blonde slid right up beside me. Also a set of weather tech floormats, tell the family, they would make a great Christmas gift…the blonde is much more expensive, trust me on that one, but a whole lot more fun.

So far this one has come without paperwork…coming up on 10 years.

Ha! Got a hottie in the front seat already. She wants the truck for herself.
Weather tech are sweeeeeet. Got em. The bedslide is something I am looking at. But dang, that some change to layout. Still researching how to make it easily out of plywood and 2×4. It would not stay in…just specific applications when loose stuff would go in drawers and dog crates on top.

Angle the rod rack in a short box. Also, keep a 6 foot long 3/4 inch diamater wooden pole with a small hook on the end to pull item to the back that are too far in to reach, mine stores on the side of the topper where it rest on the bed.

I have had two Leer toppers, the one I have now is ARE. Way better locks and door seals! Just my opinion.

One option I really like on a topper is the walk-in door option.Very easy for getting stuff in and out, plus much easier if you have dogs.Does not work well if you transport items longer than the bed length.
