TRUCK ACCESSORIES

Just purchased a new 2020 Ram 1500 limited with tonneau cover and spray on bed liner. Wondering what everyone uses to hold “STUFF” in rear of truck bed to keep organized and dry near the tailgate for easy access. Want to get rid of the cruddy cardboard box I was using in my old suburban.
Also who makes the best fitted floor mats, Husky, weathertech or other.
Any other recommendations for add ons?

Did it come with the hidden side boards or does it need a step? I’ve also liked having a front hitch on all my trucks.

Check out the Milwaukee Packout boxes. You can find them at Home Depot and a limited selection at Fleet Farm. Waterproof and lockable if needed.

Weathertech is number one in floor mats, just make sure you get the laser fitted ones.

I keep a 5 gallon bucket strapped (shown below) to a hook on the back corner of my F150 box. Everything is dry and easily accessible under the tonneau cover at the drop of the tailgate for dirt cheap. If I haul something with the tonneau rolled up or the tailgate down, it isn’t going anywhere. There’s a tow strap, ratchet straps, a different hitch, bug spray, gloves, a tape measurer, knife, and a hand towel in there as I type this. This is better than having a mess in the cab or stuffing things in random spots under seats, in doors, etc.

It came with retractable steps and a fold out step at rear. Has the multifunctional tailgate which I really like.

I keep a Plano sportsman’s trunk in the back of my truck. They are cheap and durable. Which length and style box do you have? They usually have pockets to put a 2x board across the box to keep things in the rear. Otherwise if you have a track systems there might be some other more expensive options.

I have had both husky and weathertechs. Both are nice sometimes one is better than the other depending on the model. Maybe check out a ram forum and see what is suggested for your truck.

I keep my stuff under the back seat and in the in-floor storage in the back seat of my Ram. If I needed more room, I’d think a tote would be sufficient. Step boards are nice, but I think they are automatically included? I’d like to have toe hooks too.

Does it have storage under the rear floor boards? My 2015 does and also under the rear driver side seat there is a small place to hide stuff. No space under the passenger rear seat mine has a big subwoofer.

Go buy a closet clothes rods and a J hook. Screw the J hook into the end of the rod. Use it to grab and pull stuff back to you without climbing in the box of the truck.

I really don’t understand why these trucks have to be so far off the ground.

The truck is a crew cab, 5.5 box. It does have slots for a 2x and a rail with two moveable hooks each side. I have stored a small tool box, an aircompressor, and first aid kit under the rear seat. There also are two compartments under the backseat floor for smaller items. All I’ll probably keep in truck bed are boat fenders, inflatable life jacket, load tie down straps, battery cables, tow strap etc. Truck does have tow hooks.

I honestly didn’t know they made trucks without them. To me, that’d immediately fall into the category of “Tall 4wd Minivan”

I would put a DeeZee rubber mat in the bed so things don’t slide around. FF runs sales on them all the time.

Toe hooks, like in the front of the truck? These I believe are an option, which is not often included when they are bought/leased new by minivan drivers chased . I don’t think lacking toe hooks, makes it a mini-van unless turning around and towing with the hitch is a significant issue…

I just use a milk crate in the front corner of the bed. Easily can be grabbed and tossed in cab if it needs to be moved. Has tow strap jumper cable hitch some tools. Honestly not sure what else is in there now. I use an old hockey stick to pull things out. lol

I’m a big fan of the Husky floor mats. WeatherTech are good also, but I found them to be harder and more slick than the softer rubber on the huskys.

I had Husky in my last truck and WeatherTech in my current truck. I actually prefer the Husky liners.

I’ve got Husky in my truck. The only reason I went with them is because I found them barely used for about 1/3 the price. I purchased the front and back from someone for $60 who was dumping a new truck the same model as mine and took their mats out. If I bought a new truck, I wouldn’t hesitate to go with Husky again.

    Husky liners are better

I like huskys better than Weather Tech. My last purchase was GM brand for my Traverse. I like them best of all.

The mats are great, you usually don’t even need to worry about things moving around unless you really stomp the brakes. Before I had a mat I used a bar with friction pads that you could put anywhere you want and twist it to lock in place. Same idea as a 2×4 but can go wherever you want in the bed.

If you drive on dirt roads a lot then anything near the tailgate is going to get very dusty. A plano storage box is good and the marine version is better because it had a rubber gasket in lid.

Congratulations on the new truck, very exciting.

I see that you mentioned you have the spray in bed liner. Now I remember as a kid always being the one that had to climb up in the box of the truck & grab stuff for Dad …..all the time lol. Hurt my damn knees.

Best money I spent was the purchase of a “Bed-Rug”.
It’s a Carpeted bed liner, padded, & cleans up well.
I smile every time I need to grab something now.

Skip accessories and get it rust proofed. Trust me. Ram cannot get paint right. Rust buckets. At year 4 my truck paint was bubbling in the middle of the fender, then the wheel wells started to disintegrate. My ram and Durango before it also disintegrated.

Personally I am done with Ram as a result. Everything else has been great.

PS I have a bed rug and it is awesome.

May help protect from rusting also.

I have a Plano sportsman’s trunk in my truck that I keep all of my straps and tie downs in. I drilled some holes in the bottom of it to help with air flow in case straps get put away wet.

I use an old milk crate and a velcro strap attached to the rear tie down. Works great!

So far I bought Husky mats for the front. I got the more flexible ones and am pleased with the way they lay down and coverage they provide. for the rear I am using the Ram mat that came with the truck and just removed the carpet that snaps off and on.
I also bought a AVS bug deflector which I don’t have installed yet. I started to but was having trouble with the junk fasteners that came with it. There have to be a be better fasteners out there. I wonder if anyone has snap riveted them on.
For a carryall in the bed I’m just using a black flexible trunk organizer we had laying around. Most of the stuff went into the storage area under the rear seats and the bins in the rear floor. Will probably pick up a plano or Milwaukee box later if I see a sale.
Hope to haul a deer or two this weekend. If we do I’ll cover the bed with a tarp.
    Thanks for the replies.

I have a 2019 Silverado, and the tail gate was dust sucker. Everything in the box always covered in dust. So I used stick on weather-stripping on the sides of the tailgate and took a $2.00 kids pool noodle cut in half to go under the tailgate. No more dust !

I have carpet in my truck bed, reduces sliding a LOT. Bedrug I believe.
