Gave them my take on the elitism of turning everything into catch and release fly only water. Also the degrading of the size structure IMHO. A river mile supports x amount of fish you can have a mix of sizes with some monsters or you can stop all harvest and restrict methods and turn into a game of chasing 8 inch minnows that you release and have alienated grandpa from teaching the youth the joys of fishing and perhaps some selective harvest. I grew up using bait and now enjoy fly fishing the most. My boys due to regulations IMHO had to use flies and catch and release and neither fish trout anymore due to a large a learning curve. The trips they remember were catching and eating some brook trout up north in the woods. Just IMHO we need to stop dividing anglers into my way is better than your way this is playing into the antis hands nicely do you think after they get the fly guys to ban bait and artificial and killing a fish That flies only c&r wouldn’t be next. We must all stick together and use your own fishing methods with some common sense harvesting.

The Wisconsin DNR has begun a public participation process to review our trout program. The program was last reviewed about 20 years ago
