March 06, 2010 my opening day here in Wisconsin will be here in no time flat. If you get cold easily or can’t handle deep snow….

    Stay home!

I was thinking small bead head nymph, a long fine leader, and my new 4 weight!

    Can’t come soon enough Len.

Hay Creek for me! Might have to use my FW’s short pole. I agree with the beads, Root, that is my go to this time of year, and often always. More fish are caught under the water as we know, but nothing better than a top hatch matched!

Are you talking Hay Creek MN or Hay Creek WI?

    Len,
Just curious what your fly of choice will be on the first day, a big bugger or tiny nymph?

    Great photo!
Reminds me of fishing the trout streams here in North East Iowa.

Scud, MN Red Wing, that is where I learned the art. Better to start out humbled and work from there I guess?

Czech have you fished Hay yet this year? MN is Jan 1 for pre-season. I fished it several weeks a go. The 325th pasture area is in good shape. Ton of HI work if you have not been there recently.

I really need to get to NE Iowa. Plenty of great trout stream fishing too plus open year round. Any suggestions for a first timer? How about Waterloo?

Went to school in NE Iowa, majored in pheasants, trout & SMB.

Canoe, Bear, Twin Springs, Waterloo, and others, been too long for me…

Great pic Len, my favorite is the worden’s 1/8oz. black rooster tail…

No scud, have not been out yet. I suppose the pasture is nice without the bull?

Mark – thanks for the tips on NE Iowa. I bet college was a blast for you! Lots of great opportunities in IA and plenty of naturally producing wild browns too. No longer put and take although I do enjoy catching big dumb rainbows too. Bows grow so fast. Please share any photos you might have archived!

Czech the sign still remains. Local humor. Last I was out I did not see one cow in the pasture, let alone a bull.
