On Saturday a friend and I finally made it out for a little trout fishing. Started out fishing the lower end of the Grant River and managed to catch a couple of small trout around 11 or 12 inches. One fish came on a panther martin and the other on a Super Bow spinner. We then proceeded to a different stretch farther upstream, several more small trout were caught before we managed to get a 16 and a 18 inch brown. The smaller trout were caught on the Panther Martins, the bigger ones on the Super Bows. Tried one more stretch farther upstream before quitting, only had one fish hit, a huge rainbow that managed to get off while waiting to get the camera out. The rainbow also hit a Super Bow spinner.
It seemed the key today was fishing the riffles entering deep holes. We caught no fish in the slower water and it seemed riffles without a deep hole adjacent to them were barren. The water was fairly clear. Rapalas didn’t seem to be the answer today and while the Panther Martin and Super Bow spinners both produced fish the Super Bow produced bigger fish. It seemed alot fish just “bumped” our lures without taking them today.
