Spent today playing on the Grant River. Fishing was great with alot of trout caught as well as alot of trout missed. A gold #7 rapala seemed to be the answer today as it seemed to produce alot better than the silver. Tried some plastics without success. Most fish were from 14 to 16 inches long.

Tried James tip on fishing rapalas by hovering them and slowly backing them into heavy cover from the upstream side. Felt like I was jigging but that technique enabled me to land an additional 4 trout today. It’s a great way to fish some spots that are normally almost unfishable.

Precision to the max! glad you tried the tip and mentioned your success with it here. I used to use that technique to ambush some of my biggest river trout. find where they’re hanging and get in position upstream just prior to dark and patiently work for that one big fish. Awesome feeling to know where a big old snarly trout is hiding and put together a presentation they just can’t resist.
