Trout fishing

I’m heading to Crawford’s Camp in 2-1/2 weeks to fish for lake trout. It will be my first time fishing for them. Im looking for suggestions on lures, baits, presentations. I have a guide for one day and I am sure they will help point me in the right direction on where to fish when I attempt it on my own the rest of the time I am there. I have talked with Matt up there a couple times and he has been very helpful. Just looking to see what other people’s experience has taught them so I can go in as prepared as possible to get on some fish that have been on my bucket list for a long time.

The info you get from Matt and your guide will be better and more relevant than any advice you get on here. As far as presentation goes, it’s really the last thing to worry about. Watch the IDO shows from up there and you’ll see white plastics on 1/4-1 oz jigs should be your bread and butter. Flutter spoons, jigging raps, and lipless cranks will catch fish too. The key to catching lakers up there isn’t what you’re using, it’s simply being on active fish. If you’re not on fish, go find some.

I would have to disagree with you on this. If you aren’t using the right lure they won’t even show or won’t bite. 1/4 oz swimbait jigs with stout hooks and white split tails, flutter spoons, dense spoons, blade baits are in the rotation. It can change during the morning/afternoon or day. Golds, silvers, whites with and without glow. Pink has been a good color this year. Early Feb my best bait was a dense gold back spoon with chart and orange on the face, follow by a jig/plastic, then a pink or lime green ken katch spoons. I have fish swoop in on 3 or 4 different baits before they ate. Snow is DEEP up there this year and lot of slush.
