Trouble with V2 deployment

This spring I finally joined the 21st century and picked up a new Powerdrive V2 and the iPilot head for it. I know there are better options for GPS trolling motors, but hey, times are tough. Anyway, I am having trouble deploying the motor, even with the new assist lever that is on it. To be honest, that seems to be the issue is it sticking right there at the lever. Has anyone else encountered this, and how did you go about remedying the problem?

    Thanks,

    BigSam

It is usually user error. I rarely let anyone deploy my V2 because they make it look like hard work, jerking, bending, pushing, etd.

From the locked position put one hand on the shaft and one hand on the deployment button. Push that deployment button HARD AND FAST and at the same time give a slight push on the shaft (You cannot lift up or down on the shaft, you have to slide it out. Keep your pressures horizontal)

If/when it gets stuck on you like it has been. Pull the motor back into a locked postion and start from stratch again.

I push that deployment lever fast and hard and it creates momentum continuing to slide the TM shaft out.. If you do it slow you’ll get it stuck every time. If you push it slow then hold it down and then try to push the shaft out you’ll struggle every time.

Push that Fckr Hard and Fast!
IF all fails lock it in and Push it harder.

When the weather is below 30 degrees i’ll grab my chapstick and wipe it all over the shaft to reduce the freezing between moves too.

IMO if you pull shaft any direction except parallel to the shaft while you press the release button hard it’ll stick and you need to lock it back in and start over. When done properly it only takes a nudge and it flies out and drops into the water. Them V1’s were much worse!

I had this problem for my first season with a V2 and solved it by rotating the adjustable collar towards the deployment lever and applying ArmorAll on the shaft and inner parts.

ArmorAll. I use 1 wipe on the shaft about every 2-3 trips. Be careful after you do this though as you might fall in because it will deploy much easier

It’s not user error, I’m a big dude, and it takes everything, and I mean everything to get that sucker to move. I have deployed this type of motor on other people’s boat, just having a tough time. I like the Armor All idea, will give that a go.

Thanks for the input and tips, guys.

I also use Armor All on the cradle that the motor sets in.

Same here, and if i pull up on the shaft instead of push it parallel with the shaft it isn’t going to budge. Just say’n. Give it a try.

X2 for me and I’m infuriated every time. My buddy’s older V2 doesn’t have the issue to near the extent I do. I’ve played with the collar too.

Thanks as well for the Armor All suggestion, I’ll give this a try.

Couple of squirts of WD40 in some strategic locations made life easier this weekend.

Anyone ever use the white lithium grease sprays before? Thinking of giving that a shot.
