Trophy Hunter or a Mille Lacs Edition for family?

I’m trying to do research and I would like some opinions to help guide our decision. Family of four looking for more room and comfort. My boys are 5 and 3, plenty of moving around! Every winter weekend we’re fishing, would also like to utilize the ice house for summer camping. We just sold our 6.5×16 Yetti toyhauler, I LOVED the house and it worked when the kiddos were younger, but unfortunately we outgrew the house. I’m not against buying another Yetti, just a little reluctant to spend the 25k.

Recently I found out about the Trophy Hunter layout from Ice Castle and the idea of having the bunks in the front seems very appealing to me. I also have read great things about the Mille Lacs edition. Can anyone offer insight into either layout? I’ve found both available for sale locally and hopefully can check both out soon.

You don’t say where you are from.

In Milaca Minnesota you have the largest ice castle dealer with many units in their lot. Across the hiway and just north a 1/2 mile you have a big Yetti dealer. Easy to compare units and bounce pricing against each other. Schedule yourself a road trip and go shopping.

We live in the Sartell area. I purchased our previous Yetti from Northland Auto. Gabe was great to deal with. I’m just not sure the layouts offered in the 8*16 models are what we’re looking for.

I also have some contacts at Outlet Recreation in Clearwater. Might head down there today to check it out.

Again I’m putting the feelers out there to see if anyone with kids could push me into either layout. What they like our don’t like about the Trophy Hunter and the Mille Lacs.

Look at all the models for yourself, don’t rely on other people’s opinions.

I have been looking at the same thing. The not having to make beds every night is really apeeling for the trophy Hunter.

I have an Ice Castle Stinger (8×16) that has the two pencil beds in the V front. I like having the two beds in the front instead of the couch, I think it fishes better then hunched over on the couch. I take my brother and his daughter and my daughter and the floor plan gives the kids room to walk around. Or if they get bored they can go on the beds and watch tv or play videos games and be away from the holes. I wouldn’t buy one without looking at all the options out there. I had a different model I was dead set on until I went and got inside of them to see what I liked.

I have a 22′ IC Trophy Hunter and love it. The bunks in the V for the kids is great. I also have a 60″ Queen sized lift bed that is great for my wife and I. This all depends on how big you want to go and if you want a water package. If you want to have a flush toilet then look at a Boss XL as it has a flush toilet and bunks in the V. I just have a dry flush toilet in mine. I did do a custom build and changed some things up over the stock layout of the Trophy Hunter. You can add slide outs and so much now a days. I would suggest to join ICOG Facebook page as its a wealth of knowledge. Look around at all the models you may find one you like better.

    Need a hug?

Aren’t these forums for exactly this? Get info and opinions on stuff we don’t have experience with in hope others do in order to help us make a better decision?

Good luck with the purchase, I’m sure the family will love it no matter what. toast

No 2 people use a fish house the same way. Look at them for yourself and then you know what will work best for you. How many fish houses have you designed and had nick?

How do you know will work best for you if one haven’t stayed in one? Are you able to stay overnight with the kids in these show models? Are you able to replicate snowy/icy conditions in a parking lot?

Dusty, you may be able to walk thru a fishhouse in a half hour and know everything about it, good for you, truly. Most of us can’t, and we try to seek out others opinions to help us have things to look for when we eventually do.

He asked everyone here for their opinion like you referenced, I gave mine. Why is my opinion less worthy to be heard than yours? Good luck finding your thick hulled boat sir.

I’m not sold on ice castle but if I did get one my choice would come down to one of these two models. With the arctic package, galvanized frame, and a toy hauler door. The bunks in the V do seem like a great spot for the kiddos but I think for hanging out with the guys a mille lacs is a better layout. Have fun shopping. I’ll be at the ice show looking at them all.
