Trolling Ski's on Leech

With the weed beds in Leech Lake, especially in Sucker Bay, being hit hard by the rusties I have spent more time trolling open water. I have picked up a few Muskies doing this but nothing over 42″. I was wondering if anyone else does this on Leech with any success. Anything approaching 50″? Do planer boards produce? Fishing alone I lost a nice fish on a board when I went to remove the board from the line.

In my opinion (which doesn’t mean much) Muskies don’t fear a boat. In the fall guys are trolling in the prop wash and catching fish. I don’t see any advantage to using boards.

I’d slow down a bit early in the season, maybe keep it around 2.5ish, down size the baits, but wouldn’t use boards.
