Okuma Deadeye or Fenwick Eagle telescopic? Going with the 8’6” version. Looking to troll crank baits alone and also with boards. Both are around the same price, just wondering what ya’ll prefer. Thanks!

Both will work, but fiberglass rods are tougher and better suited for pulling boards, especially in rough water. For that reason I give the Deadeye the nod.

I’d recommend either a medium power or medium heavy. Medium light rods get too bouncy for boards.

If most of your trolling is “by hand,” the Eagle will be a tad more sensitive.

Not a board expert but love my deadeye telescope. Great rod for the $$.

I run a couple dead-eyrs. Love the action on them.

Pulled plenty of 9# eyes with them rods, in the rod holders. Load up nicely and keep them hooked. Cheap to boot and durable.

Do you use the all black “classic” dead eye? I see there’s a dead eye “pro” version for $79.99 also, wondering if it’s worth the extra $40.

I run the lese expensive one…I hate to use the word cheap because it implies a lack of quality, which there is not-for this price. $35@FF

I like my Deadeye but never used the Fenwick. I guess I need to get out with Bearcat and do a head to head.
