Trolling rod holder setups

    Hi,

I am planning to setup my boat for trolling walleyes. I am at a conflict on what to use. I’m leaning to adding two 43″ X 3/4″ rails on rear gunnels of the boat then adding three clamp style Scotty rod holders on each rail. The reason is when I’m not trolling I can pull everything off. The boat will look great. Is anybody using anything else that would be better and look just as good?

You could use a track system too rather than rails.

    MojoG,

Are there any brands that are preferred?

Why not just Scotty flush mounts? Gunnel too narrow or don’t like drilling holes?

I have flush mount rams and love them.

I had the sliding track mounted items on my Lund (lund track system)… worked fine, but they left most of the long rod ends sticking into the boat like the scotty holders on a rail would, I expect. Get two guys in there, and it just took too much space. Got lucky, found a used setup… traxtech like Mojo mentioned. The tracks, and adjustable/ removable tubes. I really like them. All that stuff is now over the edge of the boat, and they are much better for use in regular trolling rods. Plus, when pulling heavier stuff on Lake MI… it just seems much more reliable. Always worried about the other components.

I still use the other for holding light pan fishing rods and such at times when rods don’t have the long rod butts, but love the new track system. Only mod I still want to do, is make a padded insert to slide into the tracking when I am not trolling. Just for sitting on the side of the boat, or whatever casual use.

Thanks for the info sounds like I will go with the traxtech. Just have to find that $800 bill. Then I. An go with the the tree setup. Is there a recommended traxtech rail to support a 3 rod tree holder?

Give Skeeter Boat Center in Ramsey,mn or Chippewa Falls, WI a call. They are ver familiar with trax-tech.
