Hey I’m looking for some advise my 2 trolling reels are getting old I typically use them later or salmon fishing mostly fresh water but they see the occasional salmon run out on the Pacific. I’m willing to spend $150 each with some wiggle room. Any advise?

Shimano Tekota’s are an upper end line counter. Found them on sale for around $180.

Bought my first Tekota last year. My other trolling reels will be replaced with Tekota’s.

If you can afford the Tekotas they are the bar. If you can’t, I’d suggest the Okuma Coldwater Low Profile, both in linecounter models.

I like the Okuma Convectors in the price range you’re looking. I’ve got 8 of them for Salmon trolling lead core and copper and they work great. Really pretty nice smooth drag’s at this price point. They are not Takota’s, but they work great for Salmon.

Probably a Tekota issue outlier, I’ve had terrible luck with my counters going bad. I used Daiwa sealines, had lots of levelwind issues. Now I’ve got 9 Tekotas going on 4 years, two have counters that’ve been replaced and one is on it’s third levelwind pawl.

If you like a quicker reel, the Daiwa Saltist is an awesome reel. I have one for a wire dipsey.

Can’t go wrong with Tekotas either. They are very nice reels. I run them on my rigger rods

Sealines are pretty nice too for the price, but they are definitely a peg below Saltists and Tekotas.

A Saltist is a larger reel if used primarily for freshwater but by God one turn of the handle and you’ve pulled in some line.

I used to use a Tekota 500 for the ocean and 300’s for all my freshwater.

How are you using them? I like the sea lines, but I don’t think they have a size big enough to hold anything but mono/braid or a few colors. They are good cost effective reels, not the best that money can buy. Cabela’s will have them every so often for about 60.

I’d like to thank every one for their advise I settled on shimanno tekota 601 ….outside the price range I was initially looking but once I picked one up I was sold!
