Trolling motor shaft support

Hey everyone. I just put the big 72″ Minn Kota terrova on my alumacraft. As you can imagine with that much leverage I’m concerned about big waves potentially damaging the shaft. Does anyone have any recommendations for an easy to install trolling motor support up in the bow? I’d prefer not to drill any holes in my boat.

    Thanks!

Do you mean when it is stowed? Could probably get a https://www.rammount.com/part/RAP-400-202U on an Alumatrac bracket. I doubt you need it though just to protect the shaft. You can hit rocks and have the full weight of the boat bending it and they rarely break, bouncing isn’t going to do anything. Only thing I’d worry about is if the head can hit something when it bounces.

If you don’t want to spend $80 or drill holes in your boat and have a grab handle or rail available, here’s what i did. Got a ram arm off amazon and a couple cheep claw clamps. I think i spent around $50 and it works great no flex in the shaft and head stays put.

I found the one I bought a long time ago, never used. I guess it’s an older version but I don’t know what the difference is. $50 if you want it.

I made one out of a plastic tube off an old vacuum cleaner. drilled 2 holes in it and strapped it to the shaft with a piece of velcro. my AC has the wide gunnels so i just put a rubber piece on the end and it just rests on the gunnel. everything was free…..works great and i don’t remove it when i deploy the motor.

Bounce Buster type thing. Works great!

Just cut and wrap a nerf ball around the shaft
