I had to replace my motor head on my 65# Minnkota trolling motor. What should I use to seal the shaft to the motor head when I thread it back on? I want to make sure it stays tight and stays completely water proof. Thanks.

Did you replace the entire housing? Or just rebuild it with new brushes and shaft? If your referring to just the front cover gasket on the housing, Minn Kota has a torque spec and NO SEALANT for the gasket. The tollorances are tight enough that a sealant may prevent the housing cover from drawing down evenly.

As for the shaft to the housing, I would run a thin bead of 3M Marine Adhesive on the threads and tool off after torqued. Wouldn’t take very much

I bought a new complete motorhead housing and need to screw it back onto the shaft. What does Minnkota use I wonder? Would loctite work and is that waterproof? Thanks.

I would not depend on Loctite to “seal” the threads. Locktite brand, does make sealing products such as for pipe fittings. I would use a product intended to seal threads as opposed to locking threads.

Called Minnkota. They use red Loctite with an accelerant. They said I should use a liquid silicone based pipe thread and that would work.
