    Guys and Gals,

I am sure this has been brought up before but looking to upgrade my trolling motor.

I currently have an older power drive. Learning quick with new boat that spot lock etc… is important.

I run a Hummingbird 900 series. I want to get ipilot and spot lock. I have a 16.5 alumicraft so don’t think I need the 24 volt I can run same power 55thrust with 12 volt but I want the advanced features.

Between the power drive, terrova, ultrex do they all perform the same. I don’t need auto deploy or the quick deploy seems like the power drive would do fine.

    Opinions and comments appreciated.

The terrova has all the new features in 12v. Sounds like you only need a I pilot model. I would seriously consider the I link model if you plan on upgrading your graph anytime soon. The i link has the follow contour feature and a better handheld controller. 2017 minnkota models have the upgraded spot lock and Bluetooth link for the newer humminbird graphs.

Is your Power Drive a V2?

You can get a I-pilot head upgrade for about $500 or a I-pilot Link for $800.

I bought an I-pilot Link Head used off of e-bay for $200.

In all cases it is the original I-pilot version but the spot-lock works OK on my 16ft Lund.

I have a new 17′ Smoker Craft with a 24v Terrova 80 with iPilot Link with a Helix 9… it is great. Worth the money.

i would advise spending the extra money on the 24v if you have the battery space. the extra thrust really helps the spot lock/cruise control/track following not have to work so hard.

if you are ok with the pd deployment, you’ll be fine with the new pd with ipilot. i chose the terrova due to an easier deployment AND i like to use the footpedal at times.

Excellent point about the foot pedal. If you cast for muskies at all, you’ll definitely want to use the foot pedal instead of the remote. The stow and deploy of the new Terrova is very easy too.

The foot pedal will undoubtedly come in handy too when your remote or remote charger eventually brakes

There is an app that allows you to use your smart phone as a remote. So if the remote dies, you do have a back up.
